Doctor forgets towel in a patient after performing an operation on him
Two
medical doctors are expected to face the full wrath of the law after they
forgot a towel in the stomach of a patient after a surgical operation leading
to the patient’s death. PM News reports that Dr Taiwo Shogunle and Dr. Adeleke
Olusegun worked at St. Raphael Divine Mercy Specialist Hospital at Ijede,
Ikorodu in Lagos, where they carried out the operation on one Omojola Bamgboye.
They were arraigned before an Igbosere magistrates’ court on a one count charge
of murder. Supol Eshiet Eshiet who is the police prosecutor told the court that
the doctors in an act of negligence killed Bamgboye after forgetting a towel in
his abdomen. He quoted that the offence is punishable under section 222(2) of
the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. The doctors however denied the
allegation and were granted bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties
each in like sum by the presiding magistrate, A.T. Omoyele.

MIKEL CHANGES NAME
The midfielder was not supposed to be called ‘Mikel’. The Nigerian was born John Michael Nchekwube Obinna but the name Mikel became a thing when the Nigerian FA mistakenly used Mikel instead of Michael on his submission form for the 2003 FIFA Under-17 World Championships. Mikel liked the mistake and kept the name and he has been called John Obi Mikel ever since he joined Chelsea in 2006. To stop the confusion the midfielder has officially changed his name to MIKEL JOHN OBI |

INEC postpones Rivers re run elections
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has postponed the scheduled rerun elections in Rivers State over security concern.
INEC has therefore fixed July 30 for the rerun elections in some parts of the state.
In a statement signed by its Secretary, Mrs. Augusta Ogakwu, INEC maintained that it was ready to conclude the rerun election within the shortest possible time but the enabling environment must be provided by the political actors.
The commission cited last Saturday’s attack on its office in Khana local government area of the state as a sign of prevailing danger.
